Health science professionals invited to register for the Emergency Health Provider Registry as wildfires put pressure on health care delivery

With British Columbia experiencing the third most destructive wildfire season on record, while still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the opioid crisis, the demand on all members of the health care team continues to be unrelenting.   And health care professionals are being asked to do a bit more: support the health care team in the areas most hard hit by wildfires by registering with the Emergency Health Provider Registry.  

HSA Members Urged To Vote In September 20th Federal Election

HSA MEMBERS URGED TO VOTE IN SEPTEMBER 20th FEDERAL ELECTION A federal election has been called for September 20th and the outcome will have a significant impact on the health care and community social services that HSA members provide. The Parliament that we elect will also be able to act on the issues that HSA members have identified as important to them, like climate action, child care, and pharmacare.

New Statutory Holiday to Mark Legacy of Residential Schools on September 30

All HSA members covered by the Health Science Professionals, Community Health, Community Social Services and Nurses Bargaining Associations are now entitled to a statutory holiday held annually on September 30. This date marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a moment to commemorate the tragic legacy of residential schools in Canada. The establishment of the national holiday is in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, and was instituted by the federal government with legislation that passed in June. 

New Public Health Orders for Members Working in Long-Term Care and Assisted Living

BC’s Public Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, today announced a new public health order for mandatory vaccination as a condition of employment for all employees working in long-term care or assisted living facilities. This new public health order will impact HSA members working in these settings.
